The Cause

The 2013 Doubleshot returns as a fundraising event disguised as a killer race!  We aim to accomplish the following:
  1. Raise capital for Moore's Springs Trails and Campground.
  2. Increase awareness and thoughtful use of Stokes County, NC's beautiful outdoor landscapes.
  3. Present a challenging, unique and fun cycling event for racers of all ages and skills levels to enjoy.
Moore's Springs Trails encompass a growing mountain bike trail system designed by Tony McGee and built primarily by the hands of volunteers.  The system currently has about 9 miles of singletrack, carefully crafted to offer rock ledges, fast-flow, stream crossings and beautiful views of the Sauratown Mountains.  Currently, all of the work, improvement and infrastructure are provided by friends and volunteers.

The MST crew is also refurbishing the historic Moore's Springs Campground, and have already improved the entrance road, cleared old brush and opened the campground for limited use.  This is a gem of Stokes Co., with access to the Dan River and located less than 1/4 mile from the mountain bike trails.

From Tony: "MST was constructed on the Moore's Springs Nature Preserve to expand local recreation opportunities and to help strengthen the local recreation-based economy. Our first trails were built by a core group of volunteers, who cleared old farm roads and built a small network of trails on them. Our second phase of trail building was through a workforce development program that taught manufacturing skills to local youth who were chronically underemployed. We built over 4 miles of trail in this phase. Our third phase started after the end of the workforce development funding. This phase returned to the volunteer based effort and completed a 6 mile loop, begun by the workforce development program.

We are now entering a new phase that will see greater involvement by local investors and a private, non-profit Sauratown Cycle Club. This will allow us to greatly expand the current trails, including the construction of trails on the northern side of Moore's Spring Road, around the Moore's Springs Campground."

Autodrop Ltd. aims to help:  We are donating large percentage of our race profits to the MST crew for equipment purchases, facility improvements, and discretionary funds to use as needed.  A portion of your race registration goes directly toward this goal.
